Albania is not automatically covered by EU roaming
Albania is in Europe but is not an EU member. Do not assume your Swedish plan includes the same roaming allowance as within the EU/EEA. Check your operator’s price list before departure; data can otherwise be expensive.
Local SIM card
Local operators sell prepaid SIMs and data packages. Buy from an official shop or authorised retailer, check validity and data allowance, and ask whether passport identification or registration is required. Keep the packaging or activation details.
eSIM
An eSIM can be convenient if your phone supports it and is unlocked. Compare data allowance, validity, network coverage and whether the package includes data only or also calls and texts.
Coverage and offline maps
Coverage is generally strongest in towns and along major roads, but may be weaker in remote mountain areas and valleys. Download maps, booking details and important addresses before leaving larger towns.
Practical tip
Use hotel and café Wi-Fi with normal care. Turn off data roaming on your Swedish SIM until you know the cost, and check that your phone is using the intended SIM for mobile data.
